Yale Law School – Rare Book Open House – Hamlet’s Legal Documents

“There’s another. Why may not that be the skull of a lawyer? Where be his quiddities now, how quillities, his cases, his tenures, his tricks?”

Hamlet, Act V, Scene 1 This Friday’s Rare Book Room Open House turns to the gravedigger scene in Hamlet, as an astonishingly detailed glimpse into the documentary forms of early modern English law. Visit the Rare Book Room for an informal display of examples of the 16th- and 17th-century English legal documents itemized by Hamlet in the scene. Stop by the Rare Book Room for a Friday open house this Spring: Feb 24, March 31, and April 21, 12:10-1pm, in the Law Library’s Rare Book Room, located downstairs on Level Two of the Library.
