GRAND RAPIDS, MI – A woman who posed as a government lawyer to defraud immigrants trying to obtain legal status in the U.S. has been sentenced to six years in federal prison.
Jessica Rubio, 32, formerly of Grand Rapids, was ordered to pay $273,755 in restitution after she pleaded guilty to wire fraud.
She posed as a U.S. Department of Homeland Security attorney and said she could speed the immigration process, get foreign nationals out of detention and conceal immigrants’ criminal records, the government said.
