The Australian newspaper reported yesterday that WA law firms are almost embarrassed to say that the financial slowdown hasn’t affected them
The report reveals that although there aren’t the previous growth levels in play …in no way is business going backwards for them.
The Australian introduce their article by saying
No boom but not all gloom as city law firms grow
THE west may no longer be booming and the economic downturn has caused serious pain, but Perth’s legal market is far from gloomy with some of the city’s top law firms recording strong growth and looking to hire rather than fire.
Shielded from the full effect of the global financial crisis due to reduced dependence on the banking sector, there is an optimistic outlook for Western Australia’s legal scene, with predictions the state’s economy will be among the first to recover.
At Clayton Utz, growth this financial year is similar to last year, about 16 per cent, and there have been no redundancies specifically due to the downturn.
"I’m almost embarrassed to say it, but we haven’t seen the effects of the global financial crisis on our growth levels," Perth managing partner Geoff Simpson told The Australian.
"In relation to this particular office, we really haven’t seen the effects from a growth perspective. We’re the best performing office in the network."
