Wales: Powys chef banned from roads after drugs charges admitted

Chloe Jones drove a Ford Fiesta on Plantation Lane in Newtown on November 24, while she had by-products from cocaine and cannabis in his system.

She pleaded guilty to two charges of drug-driving when she appeared before magistrates sitting in Welshpool on Tuesday (May 12).

Prosecutor Helen Tench told the court that police were on patrol when they saw the vehicle being driven by Jones.

She continued: “They followed the vehicle further into the estate. They wanted to speak to the driver, and they noted she had a passenger.

“There was a smell of cannabis, the defendant’s eyes were pricked, and she had a yellow tongue. She was nervous.”

Ms Tench said a roadside drug swipe was positive and Jones was arrested.

The court was told that blood tests showed the defendant had seven micrograms of Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol — the active component of cannabis — per litre of blood, the legal limit is 2ug/l. She also had 256ug/l of Benzoylecgonine — the metabolite of cocaine — when the legal limit is 50ug/l.

Rob Hanratty, defending, said there was no indication that Jones’ driving was impaired and that she needs her driving licence to get to work.
