The Vietnamese office of Singapore-based law firm Rajah & Tann has completed the merger with the Ho Chi Minh City-based peer VN Counsel the company confirmed with DEAL STREET ASIA on Friday.
The addition of the 10 attorneys from VN Counsel (including three partners) has increased the legal professionals of Rajah & Tann LCT Lawyers, Vietnam, to almost 40 people across Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City. This makes it one of the largest law firms in the country.
Led by partner Thang Nguyen, VN Counsel specialised in the practice areas of corporate, property and construction, restructuring, M&A, banking and finance, tax, debt collection and litigation.
Chau Huy Quang, managing partner of Rajah & Tann LCT Lawyers, said that the merger will not only bolster the company’s on-the-ground capacity in Vietnam, but also reinforce Rajah & Tann Asia’s regional strength.
Besides, a suite of new laws are set to come into effect later this year. “We feel that this merger will be important to boost our commitment of ensuring our clients’ needs are met with local expertise and quality service. Our new team stands ready to help them navigate through Vietnam’s complex legal framework,” he added.
Last year, Rajah & Tann combined its eight regional and associated law firms in Southeast Asian to form Rajah & Tann Asia, to provide transnational services across the region. In addition to the Singapore headquarter, the law firm now has presence in Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Lao, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.
