Finnish state-owned operator Veikkaus has appointed Jyri Lassi as its new general counsel, effective 1 September 2025.
The executive joins from electric vehicle charging service company Virta Global, where he has acted as chief legal officer since August 2022.
Prior to that role, he acted as general counsel of virtual reality headset manufacturer Varjo, from October 2020.
Other roles formerly held by Lassi include vice president, legal at PayPal and VP legal and compliance at Nokia, where he worked between 2008 and 2016.
At Veikkaus, Lassi is set to replace Hanna Kyrki in the general counsel role, whose term with the company will come to an end in July.
The operator said Lassi’s appointment “strongly supports Veikkaus’ strategy to be a modern and competitive gambling company in the coming years, successful both nationally and internationally.”
The company is preparing for the introduction of Finland’s licensed competitive gambling market in 2027, marking the end of state-owned Veikkaus’ monopoly over the sector.
The appointment follows on from news last week that Veikkaus has launched a new sports betting platform powered by industry supplier OpenBet.
“Jyri Lassi has very diverse work experience in responsible and challenging legal positions in internationally operating companies,” commented Veikkaus CEO Olli Sarekoski.
“I am convinced that with his expertise we will move forward in a determined and controlled manner in the changing operating environment of the gambling industry.”
