A) KNOWLEDGE OFFICER

Overall Objective

To support the Firm in achieving its objectives for service delivery and profitability by the creation and sharing of first-rate legal and commercial knowledge.

To contribute to the development, implementation and promotion of the Firm’s knowledge sharing strategy.

Knowledge Sharing

  • Support and deliver knowledge sharing initiatives
  • Maintain Know-how gateway and other Intranet pages to ensure quality and accuracy of material
  • Liaise with legal teams and sector teams to develop intranet practice pages and workflow pages to support matter management
  • Maintain and publish precedents and know-how
  • Represent the Knowledge team at legal teams’ meetings (Augustines and Private Client)
  • Deliver sessions on knowledge sharing to staff
  • Support the knowledge sharing forum for the Firm’s trainee solicitors
  • Support the Firm’s intranet editors group (Phoenix) and develop standards for the formatting and structure of intranet pages

Provision of In-House Databases

  • Develop and administer the Private Client team’s estate administration system (Isokon)
  • Maintain Who Knows How, the Firm’s online directory of legal expertise
  • Support the development of Web Publisher, the team’s software for publishing content to the Intranet
  • Support the development and maintenance of in-house databases in response to the Firm’s needs (Ferret, Staff Directory, Tenders database, Experts and Barristers, Foreign lawyers etc)

Services to Staff

  • Support lawyers and other members of the firm in legal research using electronic, printed and external sources including Lexis Nexis, Westlaw, Lawtel, Practical Law, Companies House Direct and the internet, to deliver services to clients
  • Assist users in the exploitation of knowledge resources
  • Develop training notes and “how to” guides
  • Participate in Knowledge Centre inductions

Copyright

  • Negotiate and review the Firm’s copyright licences (Copyright Licence Agency (CLA) and Ordnance Survey); ensure copyright audit procedures are implemented
  • Knowledge Centre collection management
  • Oversee acquisition and cataloguing processes
  • Ensure that the collection represents best value for money, is appropriate for the needs of the Firm and that it is well maintained

Knowledge Centre Administration

  • Monitor expenditure against budget; report on monthly expenditure to the Head of Knowledge and Information Management
  • Contribute to the maintenance of the enquiries database and Knowledge manual
  • Develop and document Knowledge Centre administrative procedures
  • Cover for other team members as and when required
  • Other duties assigned by the Head of Knowledge and Information Management from time to time

B) Senior Knowledge Officer (FTC)

  • Liaise with legal teams and sector teams to build collections of precedents, know-how, matter management pages and templates
  • Represent the Knowledge team at legal teams’ meetings
  • Ensure that precedent records are added to the catalogue (Ferret) as appropriate
  • Support the knowledge sharing forum for the Firm’s trainee solicitors

Services to Staff

  • Support lawyers and other members of the firm in legal and business research using electronic, printed and external sources including Lexis Nexis, Westlaw, Lawtel, Practical Law, Companies House Direct and the internet, to deliver services to clients
