Prince Andrew Debuted a New Lawyer and a New Defense Strategy—Will It Work?

In court this week, Andrew’s new Hollywood lawyer claimed the royal hadn’t been properly served and brought up a reason why he thinks the entire suit is baseless.

n Monday some progress was made in the civil suit filed against Prince Andrew by his accuser, Jeffrey Epstein victim Virginia Roberts Giuffre. The case had its first hearing in Manhattan’s federal district court, and Andrew was represented by Andrew B. Brettler, a Hollywood attorney who has also represented Armie Hammer. Despite that, one formality was still outstanding: Had Andrew been properly served with the suit?

Though Giuffre first filed the suit, which seeks damages for battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress under New York’s Child Victims Act, on August 10, court records filed by her representation last week indicate that Andrew was presented with papers through a protection officer at his Windsor home, Royal Lodge, on August 27. Giuffre first made her allegations against Andrew more than a decade ago, and in the past, Andrew “absolutely” and “categorically” denied any contact with the woman, who was a minor at the time the abuse allegedly occurred.
