Vancouver lawyer Joanna Mun-Ling Lee suspended for four weeks

Vancouver lawyer Joanna Mun-Ling Lee has been suspended for four weeks for committing professional misconduct.

Lee admitted that between 2021 and 2022 she acted in a manner that frustrated and, or, misused the court process. Lee filed two petitions for judicial review that were nearly identical and proceeded with both despite a finding from the court that they were duplicative, and without providing full and frank disclosure about the first petition in the second. She also brought ex parte proceedings in which she failed to inform the court of all material facts and failed to give the opposing party notice despite their reasonable request that she do so. In addition, Lee failed to sign orders in a timely manner, and failed to disclose to the opposing party and, or, the court that petitions had been scheduled for a hearing, when she ought to have known they did not know the petition had been scheduled.

In considering the consent agreement, the Law Society took into consideration the fact that Lee has no prior professional conduct record, will complete six hours of continuing legal education on civil litigation and has, since the Law Society’s investigation into this matter began, completed 20 hours of related continuing professional development courses.
