TIM Bugg has taken over as the government’s main adviser on legal exports at a time that the Chinese would describe as “interesting”.

Mr Bugg, a former president of the Law Council, now leads the International Legal Services Advisory Council — an organisation that has helped push the value of legal exports from $67 million in 1989 to $675m in 2007.

And much of that growth has been due to transactions taking place in China — which now takes more of Australia’s legal exports than any other market except North America.
