USA:Disbarred immigration lawyer appears in court for federal fraud case

Former immigration attorney and municipal judge Joseph Molina Flynn appeared in court in his own criminal case on Tuesday.

Flynn was charged with tax evasion and wire fraud in U.S. District Court.

Federal prosecutors accused him of defrauding his immigration clients, taking nearly $100,000 in fees for work he didn’t perform by not filing important paperwork for them as he claimed he would.

Prosecutors accused Flynn of hiding his business money by using it to pay personal expenses, including $190,000 in American Express bills and $8,000 in luxury car payments, and writing nearly $130,000 in checks to himself.

They claim he didn’t file payroll taxes for employees and didn’t report income from work as an adjunct at Roger Williams University or as a municipal court judge in Central Falls.

Flynn reached a plea deal with federal prosecutors earlier in June.

As part of the agreement, he was disbarred. Flynn was previously suspended in October.

It comes nearly a year-and-a-half after federal agents raided his Providence office in January 2025.
