USA: UVA Law School student tests positive for COVID-19

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) — Students at the University of Virginia School of Law have been alerted about one of their peers testing positive for COVID-19.

According to a letter sent to the Law School community on Sunday afternoon, the student is isolating in Charlottesville and following Virginia Department of Health protocols.

VDH is working to identify anyone who may have had close contact with the sick student and contact them.

UVA and the Law School are also trying to notify and support anyone who may be affected in the community.

In the letter, UVA officials say they are encouraged by how the health and safety protocols have operated in this case to minimize the spread of the disease and help the student.

They also remind students and staff about the importance of following health and safety protocols, such as monitoring for any symptoms, seeking medical care and isolating if ill, and maintaining physical distance.

Students who show any symptoms of or suspect they have COVID-19 should contact Student Health at (434) 924-5362. Employees can contact (434) 924-2013. This counts even if the student or employee has already been to see a private doctor or are living outside the Charlottesville area.

Students should also tell the Law School’s Student Affairs Office while employees should also inform their managers so that the school can provide support.
