The Research Librarian will be responsible for coordinating library research and business intelligence data request, as well as, current awareness initiatives. This position must be capable of working in a fast-paced environment with time-sensitive materials, and maintain strict confidentiality due to the nature of the position. 

Essential Job Duties:

  • Provide key electronic resources for the purpose of collection development, reference, and current case awareness initiatives across the Firm
  • Assist with training practice groups on the effective use of electronic resources that include computerized databases, internet sources, and electronic alerts using internal and external research services.
  • Coordinate interlibrary loan efforts for articles and books not housed at the Firm, including traveling to local libraries where the Firm has borrowing privileges
  • Monitor trends for delivery of services in consultation with Library and IT Directors
  • Assist with the maintenance of the Library’s web presence on the Firm’s intranet
  • Investigate new technologies for delivery of services
  • Process reference requests, including but not limited to ready reference such as cite checking, pulling cases or statutes, etc.
  • Analysis of published sources, telephone contacts, service bureaus, in-house precedents and legal and non-legal databases
  • Assist the Library Services Directors by completing research and business intelligence requests
  • Assist with the check-in of mail and catalog clean-up
  • Assist with the management and maintenance of knowledge databases
  • Generate monthly reports from the United States Patent and Trade Office
  • All other responsibilities as required.
     
    Minimum Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in Library Studies and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program, or equivalent, including coursework or significant experience with legal bibliography. Requires a minimum of three years of legal library work experience.
  • Must have the ability to perform computer-assisted legal research including LEXIS and WESTLAW, PACER, Practical Law, BNA, CCH, Hein-Online, Dialog and other standard reference databases as well as public records research experience.
  • Must have the ability to comprehend and summarize research results to deliver summaries of the most relevant information.
  • Ideal candidates will have the ability to perform a variety of library skills including acquisitions, interlibrary loan and document retrieval. Must be able to work under pressure with frequent interruptions. Proficiency with common Microsoft office tools including Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required. Experience with Microsoft Project is a plus
