USA – Position: Reference/Research Librarian Seton Hall University School of Law Library

The Peter W. Rodino, Jr. Law Library at Seton Hall University, located in Newark, NJ, seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Reference/Research Librarian position. This position will provide a newer law librarian with the opportunity to increase knowledge of resources and methods, to polish instruction skills, and to develop subject area expertise.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provides reference and specialized research assistance to students, faculty, administrators, staff, alumni and others permitted access to library services.
  2. Provides research assistance and instruction directly to these groups, at the reference desk, by phone, email, and in individual consultations by appointment.
  3. Serves as library liaison to faculty to support their research and teaching interests.
  4. Develops expertise in areas of law related to the law school curriculum and faculty research.
  5. Provides research instruction in the classroom.
  6. Participates in collection development in all formats.
  7. Develops, creates and maintains online research guides.
  8. Contributes to the Library’s social media presence.
  9. Participates in other duties as needed.

Qualifications:

  1. JD from ABA approved law school or equivalent non-US law degree.
  2. MLS or equivalent from ALA accredited library school.
  3. Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  4. Excellent knowledge of both traditional and electronic legal resources.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to emerging library practices and technologies and their applications to instruction.
  6. Strong service orientation.
  7. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  8. Library experience preferred.
  9. Instruction or presentation experience preferred.

Seton Hall University School of Law is located at One Newark Center, Newark, New Jersey. The Law School offers day and evening classes. The Law Library is housed on three floors of the Seton Hall University School of Law, contains 533 seats for a population over a 1,100 students, and provides wireless internet access throughout the building. The Law Library staff consists of 6 professional librarians and 9 support staff.
