Cornell Law Library seeks a Research and Instruction Librarian to work part-time, 20 hours per week.

Under the supervision of the Head of Research and Instruction, the Research and Instruction Librarian will perform the following duties:

  • Teach legal research in the first-year Lawyering course.
  • Provide reference and research services to the Law School and University communities in traditional and online environments.
  • May assist with instruction in two clinics managed by the Law Library (the Legal Research Clinic and a new Legislation Clinic anticipated to commence in spring 2017 and the summer Foundations in American Law program.
  • Participate in the creation and revision of content for the Law Library’s website, research guides, social media, and other online services and resources.

This position is a benefits eligible one-year term appointment, and offers a competitive hourly rate. It is available on January 1, 2017. Renewal of this position is dependent upon continued funding.

Required Qualifications:

  • JD from ABA-accredited institution
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct in-depth legal research
  • Strong service orientation
  • Excellent written and oral communication, technology, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and function in a collegial, teamwork-oriented environment, which emphasizes customer service and delivery of exemplary library research services.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience
  • Experience providing library reference and research services
  • MLIS or equivalent from ALA-accredited institution
  • Two years professional academic law library or related experience
