MARION COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — The S.C. Supreme Court has placed Marion County lawyer, Adria Leta Johnson, on interim suspension from practicing law following questions surrounding what happened to nearly $100,000 in the attorney’s trust account for a probate court matter.
The order reads: “It is ordered that Respondent’s license to practice law in this state is suspended until further order of this Court.”
Marion County Probate Judge T. Caroll Atkinson issued a bench warrant for Johnson’s arrest this week after a court order said she failed to show up for two hearings.
Officials said Johnson turned herself in on Thursday after learning a warrant had been issued for her arrest.
A probate court filing says in July of 2024, a bank issued two checks for $114,132 to a family that Johnson represented in Marion County Probate Court.
It says the woman’s family gave the checks to Johnson, who deposited them into her law firm’s trust account.
