Salary Range:
$65,000-$75,000 Annually
Requirements (Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification):
- Master’s degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program
- Three years’ relevant experience in a law library setting with a progression of responsibility
- Knowledge of legal research resources and related services
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with personnel management
- Demonstrated awareness of new trends, standards, and emerging technologies relevant to law libraries
- Evidence of a strong service and team orientation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification as a Notary Public
- Work experience in a government law library
- Work experience in library collection review and development
- Working knowledge of and interest in information technology and trends
- Work experience in marketing or public relations relevant to libraries
Physical Requirements:
- Work involves a significant amount of sitting, standing, walking, listening, talking, stooping, crouching, reaching, sufficient strength to rearrange meeting room furniture, and the ability to lift and transfer up to forty pounds on occasion
Job Duties (Summary):
- Plans, administers, and leads law library operations, manages from an administrative level all services, resources, and operational functions, develops goals and objectives and anticipates user needs in a rapidly changing field, and evaluates law library activities to ensure efficient, reliable, quality operation and service.
- Supervises all law library staff; develops performance objectives, delegates tasks and responsibilities, interviews, hires, evaluates performance, and, as needed, takes disciplinary action.
- Plans and monitors law library fiscal activities; develops and recommends the annual budget, approves expenditures; negotiates contracts; manages bids.
- Manages from an administrative level the library’s print and digital collections, making decisions about policy recommendations, collection development, management, and license agreements.
- Manages from an administrative level the library’s facilities, including long-term planning, space allocation, signage, furnishings, and Facilities work requests.
- Promotes the law library within local government and to external audiences and potential subscribers. Chiefly responsible for marketing the law library.
- Conducts and attends applicable meetings, represents the Law Library on committees and boards, disseminates information, serves as an advocate for law libraries, user needs, and access to justice.
- Maintains working relationship with other county department heads and staff responsible for leading and managing services used by or supported by the Law library.
- Maintains working relationship with other government and subscription law libraries, conducts comparative analyses and maintains familiarity with other libraries’ services and staffing models, evaluates program effectiveness, and demonstrates value.
- Works with the Consortium of Ohio County Law Libraries to contribute professionally to and benefit from that statutorily created body.
- Engages in regional and national law library associations, representing the law library and contributing professionally.
- Ensures compliance with state law and local policies related to the management of law libraries as well as current trends and best practices in law librarianship.
- Makes policy recommendations to the Hamilton County Law Library Resources Board.
- Supports the work of the Hamilton County Law Library Resources Board by researching and presenting reports, serving ex officio on committees of the Board, and preparing for board meetings.
- Serves as a back-up reference librarian as needed.
- Assists co-workers and subordinates as needed.
- Performs other related duties.
