USA law firm partner at BCLP caught in child sex sting leaves firm

Roll on Friday report

A partner convicted of child sex abuse crimes has left BCLP, RollOnFriday can reveal.

Dan Waxman was a litigation specialist in the firm’s New York office where he led the tort group, and had worked at the firm’s legacy US component, Bryan Cave, for 27 years.

But he has now left after being caught in a police sting operation.

The 56-year-old lawyer met a girl on the internet and began messaging her last May. The conversations took place over the course of a week during which she repeatedly told him she was 14. His texts became more sexual until he arranged to meet up with her for sex.

But when he arrived at the rendezvous in Rockland County, New York, he discovered the minor a was in fact an undercover detective who had been posing as a teen.

Waxman was arrested and this April he pleaded guilty to the dissemination of indecent material to minors. He is due to be sentenced later this month, when he could be sent to prison for up to seven years and fined up to $5,000.

BCLP suspended Waxman last June as soon as it become aware of his arrest. ROF understands that he exited the firm, not entirely willingly, in February this year.

Colleagues were said to be “shocked” at the revelations about their colleague.

A spokesperson for BCLP told ROF, “We took these allegations very seriously. When we learned of the allegations, Daniel Waxman was immediately suspended from the firm, never worked since the suspension and is no longer a partner or otherwise associated with the firm”.
