Lawyer coalition to give pro bono help to blockchain innovators
Over fifty United States lawyers have formed a coalition to provide pro bono legal resources to innovators and developers who are working on developments associated with blockchain technology.
The Digital Currency and Ledger Defense Coalition says it has been founded to help protect individual constitutional rights and civil liberties in connection with regulatory and law enforcement scrutiny and efforts relating to digital currencies (eg, bitcoin) and ledgers (eg, blockchains).
As explained recently by the Wall Street Journal, a blockchain is a data structure that makes it possible to create a digital ledger of transactions and share it among a distributed network of computers. It uses cryptography to allow each participant on the network to manipulate the ledger in a secure way without the need for a central authority.
The new lawyer Coalition says it wants to help foster innovation in the new technolgies so they may be used for the betterment of society.
“The DCLDC will advance its important mission through pro bono attorney referrals to those who cannot afford legal services and the submission of amicus briefs on key issues,” it says.
