A former attorney has been charged in an 11-count indictment for wire fraud and embezzling nearly $1 million from his erstwhile law firm in Belleville, Ill., according to the Justice Department Thursday.
Jason Caraway, who was a partner at Caraway, Fisher & Broombaugh PC, allegedly misappropriated the firm’s funds by improperly spending client funds on personal and business expenses, said DOJ. He also allegedly issued himself checks, accepted settlements without paying clients, didn’t pay medical lienholders from legal proceeds, and misapplied retainers without authorization.
