Library axes database resource, media center

Because of budget cuts the Library has cut such resources as LexisNexis and a media center.

Students in research-intensive classes will have to look to database resources other than LexisNexis this year because it won’t be available at SUU.

The 4-percent cut from the university’s budget in 2008 included the elimination of LexisNexis, the Multimedia Center, 20 percent of academic hard-copy journals and 9 percent of library books.

It cost the Gerald R. Sherratt Library around $12,000 to operate LexisNexis and $16,000 to run the Multimedia Center annually, said Interim Dean of Library Services John Eye.

To keep within the Library’s budget, these services were cut because they had “the least amount of impact,” Eye said.
