US Law Librarian Blog Gives Shout Out To Favourite Reps

And – why not. Just because Darth Vader may run the Dark Star it doesn’t mean all the stormtroopers are baddies !

Give a Shout Out To Your Favorite, Hard-Working, Deserving of Recognition Vendor Reps!

There are plenty of damn good vendor reps “out there” deserving our recognition, particularly these days. They work hard for us and deserve to be acknowledged so I invite you to give them, current and past reps, a shout out as we approach the holidays by letting each know how much you appreciate their hard work on your library’s behalf. If you want, comment to this post. Tell your stories; here’s a couple of of mine, in no particular order.
Jennifer McKennan, Matthew Bender. I wonder if Jen cringed when she learned that her name and contact information would appear on every MB invoice. But even if she did, Jen is a rock star and was the subject of an LLB post that contrasted customer service the Matthew Bender way with customer service the West! way. See Not a West! Moment: Hi, my name is Jen and I’m your Matthew Bender Account Manager. She hasn’t let this “pseudo-notoriety” go to her head. Jen continues to look out for my library’s best interests even when that involves canceling titles we can’t afford in our main library, as in one-third of our annual renewals last month, and canceling all titles in our soon-to-be closed branch library — even when I screw up by thinking my cancellation instructions were comprehensive but were not because they missed some titles. Being 57 years old with absolutely no my short term memory left is one hellva lot easier when Jen is on your side. This is partnership-in-action, not “partnership in marketing rhetoric.” If you have someone like Jen on your side, find out the name of her or his supervisor and call that person! I can’t say enough good things about Jen but I hope to persuade her supervisor to free Jen from her telephone and email long enough to travel to the next AALL or ORALL annual meeting so I can thank her in person. And if Pete DeNuzio is there… .
Pete DeNuzio, BNA. OK, well, we are both Boomer gen age and share an Italian heritage so there are two pluses from the get-go. But Pete likes Bud Light Lime beer so that’s a huge negative. Usually I don’t associate with those kinds of beer drinkers. How do I know what beer Pete drinks? Well, Pete picks up the tab when he comes to town for a visit, even when I’m not in the market to buy anything, that’s how. When was the last time a West rep did that! And BNA doesn’t give their account managers expense accounts. I mentioned to Pete that he should attend this year’s ORALL meeting in Cleveland to mingle with Ohio county law librarians —
