US is asking court to reverse order banning mandate on airplane masks to fight COVID

The Justice Department on Tuesday asked an appeals court to overturn an April 2021 ruling that unlawed a government order requiring masks on airplanes, buses, trains, ride-sharing services, and at airports and other transportation hubs.

A three-judge panel of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals heard arguments supporting the government’s appeal of a ruling by a US district judge in Florida that found the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) lacked legal authority to Exhibition of a nationwide trip had mask requirement to fight COVID-19.

The CDC issued the comprehensive mask mandate in January 2021, days after Joe Biden became president.

A U.S. lawmaker report in October said the Trump administration blocked the CDC from passing a federal mandate for transportation masks in 2020.
