An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Business Development Manager to join a leading US corporate law firm in their London office. Reporting to the Director of Marketing – Europe, the role holder will serve as a business development liaison primarily to the London and Munich office practices and will work actively with the Director and the partners in the region to develop and execute clear strategies and business plans.
The Business Development Manager will have managerial and mentoring responsibility for a BD Specialist in London and will work closely with the London-based Marketing Manager for Europe. You will be expected to take an active role in learning about the practices in the region and developing the groups’ and the firm’s internal knowledge about its clients and business in order to foster cross-selling; conduct industry and client research to support business development initiatives; develop co-ordinated business development strategies, marketing campaigns and client development plans to expand client relationships and raise the profile of the firm in London and Europe; and track and analyse practice initiatives and how those initiatives impact the group’s budget, evaluating past initiatives to determine whether there is sufficient ROI to repeat those initiatives. Proosals and pitches will form an important part of this role with the Business Development Manager serving as the lead project manager for UK and Europe-focused RFPs and pitches and contributing to global RFPs and pitches as necessary. You will spearhead briefing discussions, write new business proposals and produce targeted, tailored responses to RFIs/RFPs, offer advice in preparing and rehearsing pitch teams and support follow-up and debrief activities post-pitch, reporting them back to the firm. From a marketing perspective, your responsibilities will include managing area submissions for directory rankings, surveys and league tables, firm sponsored and co-hosted programs and events and co-ordinating with the Communications team on PR opportunities, thought leadership pieces and leveraging social media platforms.
The ideal candidate will be an outstanding graduate with a minimum of eight years’ professional experience to include strategic planning, sales, market assessment or positioning in the financial services industry or other professional services industry and at least four years’ in a legal firm to include knowledge of banking and finance, investment fund and private equity industries. It is essential that the Business Developemnt Manager is a self-starter who works well in a team as well as independently and has a proven ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and priorities and the initiative to drive projects forwards combined with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to development strong and effective working relationships with the marketing team, lawyers and support staff.
