In September, our Orientation to Law Library Collections webinar will feature a special appearance by the staff of the University of Georgia School of Law as part of our state law libraries outreach project. The purpose of the state law libraries outreach project is to strengthen the ties between the Law Library of Congress and state law libraries by sharing information about our collections, products, and services with one another and with the public. Presenting from the University of Georgia will be TJ Striepe, director of the Alexander Campbell King Law Library, and Anne Burnett, foreign and international law librarian at the Alexander Campbell King Law Library.
The University of Georgia School of Law presenters note that:
“The Georgia State Library, established in 1831, became a division of the Attorney General’s office in 1972, at which time it narrowed its collection to legal materials and was renamed the state law library. In 2005, the state legislature abolished the law library, transferring its budget, physical space, and resources to the attorney general’s office. Since that time, no single entity has served to fill that role in the state of Georgia, but a network of county and academic law libraries, along with the judicial system, has stepped up to meet the legal research needs of Georgia’s residents.
During this presentation, we will feature Georgia legal resources in print and online, including Georgia Government Publications online. We will also highlight historic Georgia codes and treatises that we have scanned and made available online, and report on other projects to make Georgia law accessible.”

Orientation to Legal Research Webinar: U.S. Case Law

Content: This webinar will provide participants with information about legal sources and research techniques regarding U.S. case law, including information about the U.S. federal court system, the publication of court opinions, methods for researching case law, and information about locating records and briefs.
Instructor: Ann Hemmens – senior legal reference librarian. Ann holds an undergraduate degree from University of Illinois and earned both her J.D. and Master of Science in Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Orientation to Law Library Collections Webinar

Content: This webinar is designed for patrons who are familiar with legal research, and would instead prefer an introduction to the collections and services specific to the Law Library of Congress. Some of the resources attendees will learn about include the Law Library’s research guides, digital collections, and the Guide to Law Online, among others.
