UK: Three Illegal Roblox Casinos Shut Down Following Sky News Report

Earlier this week, Sky News released an investigation it conducted regarding illegal online gambling inside the video game Roblox. Within hours of this coming out, the three “Robux Casinos,” BloxFlip, Bloxmoon, and RBLXWild, have shut down.

Per the report, there were illegal third-party sites that allowed children as young as 12 to gamble using Robux and in-game currency on slots and blackjack.

The sites did ask for confirmation of being 18-plus, but there was no age verification process.

What is Roblox?

Roblox is a game with its own game creation system that allows players to try various types of games. For example, there’s an MMORPG-like game, “Deepwoken,” and many other types of games for players to enjoy.

According to the Q2 2024 results, Roblox reported 79.5 million daily active users and 380 million monthly active users.

Roughly 58% of the game’s player base is 16 or younger.

These illegal casinos attracted about 2.8 million visitors each month and handled millions of dollars worth of wagers.

Players would wager with Robux and could withdraw winnings with cryptocurrency and then convert that into cash.

BoxFlip released a statement following the Sky News report.

“Since its inception, we have always operated in strict compliance with all legal and regulatory guidelines,” it claimed. “Recently, however, the legal team representing Roblox has begun to apply pressure, compelling us to cease operations.”

Roblox Lawsuit

On Wednesday, a Roblox spokesperson told The Sun that the company doesn’t endorse third-party websites and “welcomes further law enforcement action and vigilance from web-hosting providers to shut down sites like this.”

A class-action lawsuit has been filed by parents in Northern California saying their children ost money through Robux gambling and is accusing Roblox Corporation of incentivizing these third-party sites and failing to care for its players. The lawsuit also claims that the company “facilitates those [gambling] transactions and profits from them.”
