UK: Solicitor injected his blood into food on supermarket shelves during crystal meth-induced psychosis, court hears

A solicitor who caused £500,000 worth of damage by injecting his blood into supermarket food was acting under the influence of crystal meth, a court has heard.

Leoaai Elghareeb, 37, targeted packets of meat, apples and ready meals during his crime spree, carrying a black bucket filled with syringes down Fulham Palace Road in west London.

The incident, on August 25 last year, ended with an arrest and ensuing plea of insanity.

A psychiatrist giving evidence for the defence said that the qualified solicitor, who owned his own legal firm, suffered from psychosis brought about by his use of crystal meth. He said the drug had caused his brain to atrophy.

Mental health consultant Dr Bradley Hillier told the court that he didn’t believe Mr Elghareeb found his actions ‘morally or legally wrong’.

‘There have been multiple times when he has reported the belief that his mind was being interfered with and that a device has been implanted into his ear or brain,’ he told Isleworth Crown Court.
