UK: Canterbury law firm Furley Page celebrates momentous 300-year anniversary in style

Canterbury based law firm Furley Page has had one of the most significant years in its 300-year history, as it commemorated its momentous anniversary with a series of events across the county.

Founded in Canterbury in 1725 during the reign of George I, making it one of the oldest law firms in the world, Furley Page moved to its current St Margaret’s Street head office in 1837.

Direct succession can be traced from James Hanson through William Long and other prominent city lawyers during the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, through to the current firm and its 150 colleagues,19 partners and offices in Whitstable and Chatham.

To celebrate its milestone year, Furley Page delivered a calendar of events that kicked off in January 2025 with sponsorship of the Canterbury 10-mile race, with 1,500 runners braving the course, including 11 from the firm. The enthusiastic runners also joined in at the Whitstable 10K and the Chatham Maritime 10K which the firm sponsored later in the year.

Connections with the farming community were reinforced in the Furley Page marquee at the East Kent Ploughing Match, and the firm continued its commitment to supporting the arts with sponsorship of the University of Kent’s Lunchtime Concerts and part of the Canterbury Festival in October, which saw 50,000 people enjoy a feast of culture and creativity.

The Partners invited clients and contacts to enjoy a fabulous production of Kinky Boots at the Marlowe Theatre, an iconic Canterbury venue of which Furley Page are proud, long-standing supporters.

Furley Page staff have also spent the year engaging in fundraising activities and community events, including volunteering with Kent’s Demelza children’s hospice and at Age UK.

A summer celebration at Macknades raised funds for the Furley Page Foundation’s charity of the year, Pilgrims Hospices.
