UK- BBC: Barrister in court accused of causing crash death

A barrister has been charged with causing the death of an 84-year-old man by dangerous driving.

Hamish Hickey, 40, appeared at York Magistrates’ Court earlier in connection with the death of Michael Lupton in the village of Ampleforth.

It was alleged that Mr Hickey was driving a Volvo XC40 when he struck Mr Lupton’s vehicle on Thorpe Lane on 26 July 2022. Mr Lupton, who lived in Ampleforth, died in James Cook University Hospital on 14 August.

Mr Hickey, of St Hilda’s Walk in Ampleforth, will next appear at York Crown Court on 21 October to enter a plea to the offence.
