U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor to visit UH law school

WHAT: U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor will spend a day at the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawai?i at M?noa. Her visit on January 31 is part of the UH law school’s Jurist-in-Residence program.

WHERE: William S. Richardson School of Law Classroom 2, 2515 Dole Street, Honolulu

WHEN: Wednesday, January 31, 11 a.m. to noon

WHO: U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor

WHY: The Jurist-in-Residence program, founded in 1987, brings Supreme Court Justices to the UH law school to meet with students and faculty. These valuable opportunities allow UH students to learn first-hand from the justices themselves. These events are private and not open to the public.

  • Still photography: Still photographers are limited to shots during the first 1–2 minutes and the last 1–2 minutes of the program.
  • Broadcast cameras: Cameras will be limited to shots from a fixed point at the back of the room. Please come at least 20 minutes prior to set up.
  • Reporters may not participate in the Q&A as part of the audience.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

  • Justice Sotomayor last visited the UH law school as part of the program in 2012.
  • She was nominated to be an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court by President Barack Obama in May 2009, and she took her seat on the court in August 2009.
  • Past participants of the Jurist-in-Residence program have included Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Antonin Scalia, Samuel A. Alito, Jr., Stephen G. Breyer and Anthony Kennedy.
