Join us for a celebratory book launch event for Prof. Faisal Chaudhry’s recently published book, entitled “South Asia, the British Empire, and the Rise of Classical Legal Thought: Towards a Historical Ontology of the Law”. The event will be organized as an interdisciplinary panel discussion, bringing together notable historians of South Asia–Brown University Prof. Tiraana Bains, Providence College Prof. Osama Siddiqui, and UMass Boston Prof. Sana Haroon–with world-renowned legal theorist Duncan Kennedy, the Carter Professor of General Jurisprudence, Emeritus at Harvard Law School. The conversation will begin with brief opening remarks by UMass Law’s Prof. Chaudhry (who also holds a cross appointment in the Dept. of History at UMass Dartmouth) and will be moderated by Wayne State Law Prof. Danya Reda. While zoom access will be possible, the panelists will gather together in person in the spirit of face-to-face discussion.
