TRANSLATION: A general strike will take place in the lawyers’ branches in Greater Tunis, Zaghouan, and Nabeul on May 19, with lawyers wearing red armbands for a month until the national general strike on June 18, 2026. These actions mark the beginning of a series of protests announced by the National Bar Association in rejection of the Ministry of Justice’s disregard for dialogue and negotiation regarding sectoral demands and others related to the independence of the judiciary, violations of the right to defense, the independence of the judiciary, the establishment of independent institutions that protect justice from executive interference, and an end to the harassment of lawyers, in addition to the malicious lawsuits against lawyers based on their opinions and political activity. All of these issues concern the legal profession, which is engaged in an open confrontation with an authority that neither listens nor negotiates.
