The defense committee for Chawki Tabib—former President of the National Bar Association of Tunisia—is closely monitoring his situation and the conditions of his detention
at Belli Civil Prison. This follows the widespread professional and human rights mobilizations seen in recent days—both domestically and internationally—advocating for
fundamental rights and freedoms, the dignity of the legal profession, and the right to a fair trial.
In this context, the defense committee wishes to inform the national and international public of the following:
Chawki Tabib has decided to end his hunger strike as of today, August 28, 2026, in response to numerous appeals urging him to safeguard his health—most notably the
statement issued by the Council of Former Presidents of the Tunisian Bar Association on August 27, 2026. He was made aware of this appeal upon receiving a copy of
the statement during a visit today from Hatem Mezou (former Bar President) and Nadhir Ben Yedder (member of the Council of the National Bar Association).
