A lawyer was shot dead by an unidentified gunman on Wednesday night, September 17, in Puerto Princesa City. His family, friends, and colleagues are urging the police to find those responsible and bring them to justice.
The victim was Atty. Joshua Lavega Abrina. The shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. while he was entering his home in the Aplaya area of Lomboy Street, Purok Bagong Pag-asa, Barangay San Jose.
He was rushed to ACE Hospital but, according to witnesses in the area, he was unable to make it.
Initial investigation showed that Abrina had just returned from a trip with a relative when the suspect fired at him as he was about to go inside their house. The gunman quickly fled after the attack.
The Puerto Princesa City Police Office (PPCPO) has not released any statement regarding the investigation, but has activated a team to track down the suspect.
Checkpoints were also set up last night in parts of Barangay San Jose that the suspect might have passed through.
Witness’ account
A relative who witnessed the attack on lawyer recalled the moments before and after he was shot dead.
The witness recounted that Abrina had just arrived home with his wife and child when the shooting occurred. He opened the gate to let them in and closed it once the vehicle was inside. After parking, Abrina carried his child into the house and asked him to get some belongings from the vehicle.
As he was about to return for the belongings, the witness said he heard gunfire.
