Here’s what he says

Dear China Law friends,

As many of you are aware of, the Li Zhuang case in Chongqing has reached its ?second season,? and the trial will be opened on Tuesday (April 19). A few days ago, Professor He Weifang at Peking University Law School wrote an open letter to the legal professionals in Chongqing and it has been widely circulated in China. An English version of the letter just became available on his blog:

The original Chinese letter is here:

As someone who studies Chinese lawyers, I see the Li Zhuang case as the most important legal case in China since the trial of the Gang of Four in 1980. This time Li Zhuang?s defense lawyers and the advisory group supporting them include several prominent senior legal scholars and lawyers such as Jiang Ping, Zhang Sizhi, He Weifang, Chen Youxi, etc.

Let?s see how this historic case ends.

P.S. For background information, I recently published a long Chinese essay on the original Li Zhuang case (with no expectation of the ?second season??), which contains a detailed summary of the case facts and relevant events:

English reports on the original case can also be easily found by a simple Google search with the key word ?Li Zhuang?.
