The Librarian will lead our team in this long-established law library, which primarily serves barristers, judges and Bar students.

We are looking for a well-qualified Head/Chief Librarian to be a member of Inner Temple’s senior management team, reporting to the Inn’s Chief Executive and working closely with a Library Committee. The Librarian will lead our team in this long-established law library, which primarily serves barristers, judges and Bar students.

The job involves full responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the Library and for the team of some seven to eight full-time equivalent staff. We are seeking an incumbent who would want to be involved in the life as well as the work of the Inn. They will have an interest in and knowledge of manuscript and historic collections.

As the Library is currently based on a temporary site, a main factor of the role in the first year will be preparing for its return to the main site. This move back provides an exciting opportunity to reintroduce the Library, in its newly refurbished building back into the heart of the Inn.

Applicants must have extensive experience of working in a law library and in-depth knowledge of legal materials and databases (with an ability to use hard copy and online resources). A high level of IT literacy and excellent interpersonal skills are required. There will be a need for financial management skills and the ability to negotiate with publishers and online suppliers. Ability to work under pressure and flexibility are also essential skills.

Benefits offered by the Inn include a generous non-contributory defined contribution pension scheme, private health care, lunch provided free of charge on weekdays when the Inn’s kitchens are open, a taxed daily luncheon allowance provided when they are closed, and a season ticket loan (after the probationary period) as well as 25 days’ annual leave (plus public holidays).

To apply, please send your CV and supporting statement to Zakiyah Kihl, HR Manager, at[email protected].

Applicants need to prove they have the right to live and work in the UK.

We hope that a successful candidate would be available to start work at the end of July (although there is some flexibility with this), preceded by a short handover.

The Inner Temple is an equal opportunities employer. Applicants are requested to complete an equality and diversity monitoring form while applying. The link to the online form can be found herehttps://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/Librarian/.
