The Center For Animal Law (Lewis & Clark Oregon) Publishes Its Winter Newsletter

Happy 2023! We’re excited to share some impactful Center for Animal Law Studies updates and highlights. Join us in applauding our first graduating class of the online Animal Law LLM Program. We’re also delighted to share the exciting coursework that our students are studying this spring semester, our Lewis & Clark Community’s annual Day of Giving (March 1st), the approaching deadline for our Call for Papers on Comparative Animal Law (March 15th), and details about all things Animal Law Week (March 6-10th).

We kicked off the spring semester on January 9th. Our animal law curriculum at CALS is unparalleled as we offer at least 18 distinct courses every academic year. Students this semester students are enjoying the following courses:

DAY OF GIVING | MARCH 1, 2023

March 1st is the annual Day of Giving throughout the Lewis & Clark Community! On the first Wednesday of March, the Lewis & Clark Community comes together to support all of the wonderful work at Lewis & Clark. Your donation to CALS will count towards Day of Giving goals and will support our mission of educating the next generation of animal law advocates and advancing animal protection through the law.

ANIMAL LAW WEEK | MARCH 6-10, 2023

Mark your calendars—our annual Animal Law Week is just around the corner! Students are busy planning a week of events for March 6-1oth to raise awareness and celebrate all things animal law. Check out the full roster of events!

THE SMELL OF MONEY | MARCH 7, 2023

Please join us on March 7th on the Lewis & Clark campus for a special Animal Law Week event: a screening of The Smell of Money, an award-winning documentary featuring the world’s largest pork corporation and how it affects the animals, community, and the world. A networking event for fellow advocates will precede the film screening.  Q&A will follow via a panel discussion featuring the film’s Producer and Writer, Jamie Berger, and Professor Joyce Tischler, who teaches our Industrial Animal Agriculture Law course.

CALL FOR PAPERS | MARCH 15, 2023

Together with our co-hosts, we are seeking submissions for our Comparative Animal Law Virtual Postgraduate Workshop to be held May 25-26, 2023. Submissions are due by March 15, 2023.
