Job Description Summary
The Biddle Law Library at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School seeks applicants for two temporary, full-time reference librarian positions.

Job Description

These positions are fully remote and there is no expectation that employees would relocate to Philadelphia while employed as a temporary reference librarian. Applicants must be able to attend some synchronous meetings and provide virtual reference services in the Eastern Time zone.
The successful candidates will join a talented team of librarians dedicated to providing outstanding educational programming and research support at a highly collaborative law school that prides itself on cross-disciplinary studies. These positions report to the Associate Director for Research & Scholarship.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have interest in one or more of the following:

Using technology to deliver and improve library and instructional services.

Teaching legal research.

Expanding existing and developing new library services for faculty publication and scholarship support, including developing robust support for measuring, analyzing, expanding, and promoting the scholarly impact of Penn Law’s highly interdisciplinary faculty.

Key responsibilities:
Provide reference and research assistance to students, faculty, staff, and the broader community via email, chat inquiries, and video conference.

Serve as a library liaison to provide personalized services to assigned faculty, including providing in-depth research support, identifying new resources, and providing current awareness services.

Create and update electronic research guides and tutorials.

Compile bibliographies to support the Faculty Appointments Committee as well as CLE programs at the Law School.

Participate in regular trainings for classes and clinics.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
JD from an ABA-accredited law school and a Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited school of information or library science

A strong service orientation

Some experience performing legal research in an academic, court, or law firm setting

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and as part of a team

Desired Qualifications:
Strong problem-solving and leadership skills

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with other decision-makers

Ability to work with initiative and flexibility in order to respond effectively to changing information needs
