POSITION: Technology and Reference Librarian
REPORTS TO: Associate Librarian for Public Services
STATUS: Full-time, Exempt, Hybrid Work Environment
SALARY RANGE: $75,000-$90,000
SUMMARY: Founded in 1901, Brooklyn Law School is a distinguished, independent law school located in Brooklyn Heights, New York. The Law School is searching for a Technology and Reference Librarian to serve both the community and library needs by managing the operations of the Library’s Student Computing Network and supporting the Library’s vision for library and education technology. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage the operations of the Library’s Student Computing Network, including the supervisor of 2 full-time and 8 part-time computer technicians
Provide technology support for library functions
Recommend, implement, and manage library and education technology
Coordinate library and education technology needs with the law school information technology department
Document and update policies and procedures for library and education technology support
Collect and report appropriate user and system statistics; provide year-end reports
Maintain access to digital resources and collections
Maintain institutional repository and/or manage digitization projects
Develop web page content, including resource guides and other instructional content
Provide reference and research support to patrons in person and virtually
Participate in formal and informal library and education technology instruction for law school faculty, librarians, students, and staff
Participate in the development of library instructional materials
Teach and provide reference support on some evenings and weekends
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
M.L.S from an ALA, or equivalent, accredited institution
ABA accredited JD, equivalent foreign degree, or a degree in computer or technical field, preferred
Proficiency at data entry
Ability to understand and apply best practices based on school library policies and procedures
Must be team player, detail oriented, and have strong customer service orientation skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential
Strong computer skills in MS Outlook and Microsoft Office Suite are essential
Proficiency with web design and familiarity with web standards and usability practices preferred
Demonstrated commitment to emerging library practices and technologies preferred
Familiarity with one or more integrated library systems preferred
Familiarity with cataloging and metadata standards for e-resources preferred
Experience teaching or training people to use legal research tools; providing reference and instructional services in a law library setting preferred
