Position Title: Technical Services Librarian

Department: Law Library

Reports to: Director of the Law Library & Associate Professor of Law

Role: Full-time Salary Position ($50K-62K)

Location: North Naples, FL

Job Description:

The Technical Services Librarian reports to the Director of the Law Library and manages and participates in the classification, cataloging and processing of Law Library materials, including Law Library acquisitions, cataloging, and documents management. The Technical Services Librarian plans, develops, and coordinates the technical services functions of the Law Library, including creating new workflows and setting new written policies in these areas.

The Technical Services Librarian assists in budget planning and monitoring in the Law Library’s technical services areas. The Technical Services Librarian follows new developments and will play a leading role in the operation of the EOS.web , a next-generation library management solution (LMS). The Technical Services Librarian also contributes to the reference, instruction, and research support team in the Law Library. This includes staffing the library service desk, supporting faculty research, and providing formal and informal instruction in legal research as assigned. (Instruction on the latest in legal research will be made available as part of our professional development incentives). A thorough grounding in U.S. legal research resources and research methods is desired. Providing problem resolution with all contracts, agreements, and vendor related issues.

The Law Library is a teaching and learning center. Library team members participate in strategic planning, collection plan development, and day-to-day engagement in our school’s activities. The Ave Maria Law Library is dedicated to the best possible customer service for our Students, Faculty and Staff. We are also open to our Alumni and members of the State Bar Association, as well as public patrons on a limited basis. The Technical Services Librarian performs all other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Required Education and Experience:

*Ability to work Monday -Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

*M.L.S. in Library and Information Science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited Institution. (An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.)

*Demonstrated experience working in technical services.

*Understanding of budget planning and monitoring in the technical services area.

*Ensuring that invoices are reviewed and processed weekly, problems are identified quickly, bills are paid timely, and payment problems are resolved quickly and effectively.

*Hiring, or overseeing the hiring and evaluation, and workflow analysis of part-time TS staff including students.

*Proficiency in Microsoft office, research, teaching, communication, and technology systems (e.g., EOS.web, LexisNexis, Westlaw, LibGuides).

*Maintaining an up-to-date list of databases and gathering statistics and other vendor figures about the use of electronic resources at least monthly to use in establishing ROI for the library and the use of its resources.

*Demonstrated analytical/problem solving skills pertinent to the organization of legal information.

*Strong time management and organizational skills.

*Demonstrated oral and written communication skills along with the ability to work flexibly with Faculty, Students, Staff, and a diverse research community.

*Academic Law Library experience is desired, or relevant equivalent experience is required.
