Sydney: Lawyer and community leader dies after testing positive to COVID-19

Awful news…

A newly admitted lawyer and prominent member of Sydney’s South Sudanese community is among the latest young people to die suddenly after testing positive to COVID-19.

Family and friends say father-of-four William Orule, aged in his 30s, died alone in his western Sydney home late on August 20.

His sudden death while infected with COVID-19 has been felt deeply within the city’s South Sudanese community.

Mr Orule, who was a former chairman of the Federation of Equatoria Community in Australia, was admitted as a lawyer in May this year after completing his legal practice certificate.

Sydney South Sudanese community leader Emmanuel Kondok said he was a “very generous gentleman” and his death had led to great fear and sadness within the community.

“It has had a very big impact in this community since the day of his passing,” he said.

“He was very co-operative and he was really very humble. He understood different people’s views.

“He’s a guy that gives up his time to other people, he understands humanity and serving other people.”

Mr Orule’s wife and children are understood to be living in Queensland with arrangements for his funeral under way.
