Americans are an irony free race at the best of times but to use an English pun this takes the biscuit
The deliberate use of starvation in armed conflict is prohibited under international law, yet it continues to devastate civilian populations in conflicts around the world. Join the Columbia Law School Human Rights Institute for a timely conversation with Tom Dannenbaum, Associate Professor of International Law at the Fletcher School, Tufts University, and leading scholar on the criminalization of starvation in war.
Topic: Starvation as a Weapon of War: Law, Accountability, and Human Rights
Professor Dannenbaum will explore the legal frameworks prohibiting starvation, the challenges of enforcement and accountability, and the urgent implications for human rights advocacy today. The event will highlight how lawyers, policymakers, and advocates can work to strengthen protections for civilians and ensure accountability for starvation crimes.
When: Thursday, October 23, 2025 | 6pm – 8pm
