Star Entertainment Group guilty of breaching Queensland casino laws

The operator of two of Queensland’s biggest casinos has pleaded guilty to illegal practices after it allowed credit cards to be used when buying gambling chips.

Star Entertainment, which operates Brisbane’s Treasury Casino and the Star Gold Coast, pleaded guilty to seven charges under the Casino Control Act 1982.

Attorney-General Shannon Fentiman said the charges related to Section 66 of the Act which prohibits the purchase of gambling chips with a credit card.

“The Queensland Government is committed to ensuring Queensland casinos are operated lawfully, ethically and in a way that maintains the highest standards of integrity and public confidence,” Ms Fentiman said.

The offences occurred between 2 June 2017 and 29 December 2018, and between 23 March 2022 and 2 April 2022.
