Stanford Law School seeks applications for the position of Access Services Librarian in the Robert Crown Law Library. Working under the supervision of the Deputy Director, the Access Services Librarian provides leadership and vision for coordination of access services. This position offers opportunities to develop and implement innovative users services to meet changing user needs and emerging technologies. The Access Services Librarian manages a team of staff and student workers who provide an array of services for the Stanford Law School community. The position collaborates with other campus libraries and oversees and develops programs, marketing & outreach, publications, and other patron services to support and promote the law library, including circulation and borrowing services to Stanford Law students, faculty, staff, and the wider University community. Qualified applicants may also contribute to the library’s research instruction activities. As a senior member of the law library’s management team, the Access Services Librarian participates in management and goal-setting for the law library, providing information, advice, and consultation to library administration related to access services. Stanford law librarians are encouraged to seek and supported to pursue opportunities for professional growth and education evolvement, both here in the education-rich Bay Area and nationally.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited school of library and/or information studies or equivalent experience;
  • Knowledge of integrated library systems as used by circulation services and collection management units, including reporting functions, and the structure and management of online catalogs, is required; experience with SirsiDynix Symphony LMS is strongly preferred;
  • Minimum of three years of experience in libraries is strongly preferred; at least two years of successful supervisory experience in a customer service environment is strongly preferred;
  • A very strong service ethic, and the ability to blend harmoniously with colleagues and the law school and university communities;
  • An aptitude for and interest in project planning and management, as well as excellent organizational, time-management, and analytical skills;
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, within a collegial environment;
  • A commitment to continuous service improvement and innovation;
  • Must possess an agile and curious mind, along with a healthy sense of humor and a spirit of idealism about our chosen profession.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

* Constantly sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.

  • Frequently twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasps lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, reach/work above shoulders, writing by hand, kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other).
  • Rarely use a telephone, operate hand controls.
  • Must be able to push and maneuver a fully-loaded cart weighing up to 650 pounds that requires an initial push force up to 50 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May work in confined spaces and at heights 4-10 feet; be exposed to dust and mold; work extended hours, evenings and weekends.
