It was time to contact authorities, several staffers at the immigration law empire founded by Alexandra Lozano decided. In fact, they had a duty to do so, some were told after calling legal ethics hotlines around the country.
Lozano, the self-proclaimed “lawyer of miracles” who used religious imagery to attract tens of thousands of Hispanic clients nationwide to her Tukwila-based firm, had given up her law license May 26 rather than face a Washington State Bar Association disciplinary hearing.
Giving up her license meant she would have nothing more to do with the firm, then named Luz Legal, the bar said. Yet, Lozano remained involved, according to three former staffers, two of whom said she participated in a company online chat, sent email to staff and helped lead two virtual meetings, including on the day the firm closed June 10.
