St. Thomas law school student tests positive for the coronavirus, is recovering

A University of St. Thomas Law School student has tested positive for COVID-19, the school announced Friday.

“We have been assured, after an investigation by MDH (the Minnesota Department of Health) that this student has not been on campus since falling ill, as the Law School was on spring break last week,” said Madonna McDermott, executive director for the school’s Center for Well-Being. “Thankfully, this particular student is recovering.”

The student was on campus March 11 and did not begin experiencing symptoms until March 15, McDermott said. Everyone who had been in contact with the student since testing positive for the coronavirus was told to self-quarantine for 14 days.

McDermott said she was grateful the student stayed home when sick and reported the condition immediately. The MDH confirmed the positive test.

“Many of us have been bracing for the eventuality of this news; still, I know this is difficult news to hear and adds anxiety to an already stressful environment,” McDermott said.
