Reports have been coming on social media that a woman has been shot at the corner of Fox and Joubert Streets in the Johannesburg CBD.
Police are currently blocking off the area, but speculation is mounting that it might have been a hit. The woman is said to have been an attorney, and the murder took place close to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) building.
According to witnesses, the shooter walked right up to the woman before opening fire.
“She was coming out of her car, heading to CCMA, when the man came close. He shot her in the head three times,” said the witness, who spoke to TimesLIVE at the scene.
The suspect fled on foot immediately after the shooting.
The victim was a familiar face in the area who had visited the CCMA offices on several occasions. “She was helping employees with cases, people who weren’t paid and unfairly dismissed,” the witness said.
Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity. This is a developing story, so more details are to come.
