Commercial Counsel – Asia Pacific

The Brief
We are looking for a creative, flexible and experienced commercial lawyer with business-orientated outlook. The role will be based in Singapore, working primarily with the Skype Asia-Pac Team, advising and supporting on all legal matters, requirements and responsibilities concerning Skype’s business in the Asia-Pac region.

Key Responsibilities
Drafting, negotiating and generally providing legal guidance and support on a wide range of commercial projects and agreements including strategic alliances, IP/IT licenses, distribution agreements, OEM/ODM licenses, co-marketing agreements, plus advising on marketing campaigns, and giving PR advice.

Managing any litigation in the region.

Working, as a member of the Skype Global Legal Team, participating on team projects, and advising and supporting Skype’s employees from all over the world.

  • Some international travel required.
  • Pre-requisite Knowledge, skills and experience
  • The successful candidate will have 6 to 8 years PQE with experience in:
  • General commercial agreements preferably in the technology sector and at a pan-Asian/International level.
  • Specific experience with legal issues relating to information technology, software and ecommerce matters.=
  • Several years in-house experience in the technology sector.
  • Training in a highly regarded and leading international law firm.
  • General experience with working in an international and multi-cultural environment with geographically dispersed team members.
  • Computer literacy with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in the following areas would be desirable but not a pre-requisite:
  • Telecommunications industry
  • Intellectual Property law, particularly in the IT sector including patent licensing and/or litigation
  • Other languages
