A Southern California lawyer’s sick scheme to swindle clients out of $300,000 to pay for his gambling addiction while lying about having terminal cancer has learned his fate.
Manhattan Beach attorney Sergio Valdovinos Ramirez pleaded guilty on Monday to multiple counts, including grand theft by embezzlement, insufficient checking funds, and a “special allegation of committing a crime that resulted in $100,000 or more in losses,” per the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.
As part of his plea agreement, Ramirez was sentenced to two years, agreed to pay $50,000 before the sentencing, and another $310,000 in restitution.
