Slater & Gordon Looking To Aquire 2nd UK Firm

There’s no stopping them is there.. we wonder when they’ll move into the Asia market?

Here’s a report from Roll On Friday who describe their report as an exclusive…

Exclusive: Slater & Gordon rumoured to be acquiring Fentons

RollOnFriday can reveal that Slater & Gordon, which bought Russell Jones & Walker last year, is looking to acquire Fentons, another London firm.

Aussie firm S&G bought RJW last year for £54m, acquiring one of the UK’s leading Personal Injury firms in the process. It is now trying to bag another: Fentons may be named after an errant labrador, but it’s a big player in the PI world with 38 partners. S&G has been clear that it is looking to expand in London, and this would do the trick: by RollOnFriday’s maths the deal would give S&G around 300 lawyers in the UK.

The deal hasn’t been signed yet, so there are no details yet as to how it might be structured. But the legacy RJW partners all became millionaires when they decided to take the Aussie dollar, so if you’re having a beer with Fentons lawyers this evening it’s probably their round.

A spokeswoman for S&G said that “as a publicly listed company if we did have an announcement to make about a potential acquisition of a material nature, we would of course first make an announcement to the ASX…..It is not news that we have an ambition to continue to grow our business in the UK, including by acquiring firms who share our values. At any point in time we are in discussions with a number of firms. If any of those discussions had reached a stage where a public announcement was appropriate, we would make one. We have no such announcement to make at this time.”

However insiders have told RoF that S&G is likely to be able to make such an announcement on Tuesday. Watch this space.
